A peek into the life of Those Who Dare Author Phil Ward

1. Tell us what inspired you to write this book. I have a military background and like to read WW 2 fiction and non-fiction. Unfortunately, current military fiction is not as good as it used to be, and when my favorite author quit writing the series I enjoyed reading, I started writing for my own entertainment.
2. As an author, do you participate in social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, etc.? Why or why not? If so, what benefits have you experienced? I am on Twitter. Twitter allows an author to identify people who have an interest in his genre and lets them know that he has a book they might want to check out. I found one really great contact for research material on a very obscure, highly classified and hard to locate subject that I like to include in my stories – so that is really cool.
3. Is your book shaped by your personal experiences, and if so, how? Yes and no. I was not in WW2 but I have been in a significant amount of combat. My background is in Ranger, airborne, air assault, light infantry operations of the type found in Those Who Dare and I taught tactics for many years. It helps to write what you know and I know about what I write.
4. What is your favorite “guilty pleasure” book or author? WEB Griffith. The best in the business.
5. If you could give a piece of advice to a debut author, what would it be? Since I am a debut writer, I’m not really qualified to answer this question, but my unqualified answer is: Write to entertain yourself and if you like what you write, done maybe someone else will, too.
6. What do you hope to share with your readers through their experience of reading your book? Those Who Dare is a case study in leadership, enterprise, can-do, ability to improvise and the willingness not to quit or give up when things look the bleakest. That’s what I would like to share.
7. It’s 5pm and you’re finished for the day. Where do you go? What do you do to unwind? I go home to my house on Cat Mountain over Lake Austin and spend time with my wife Lindy.
