It’s summer, which means you have permission to zip through as many books as you like at breakneck speed without even absorbing the story. That’s what I tell myself, anyway. I’m more likely to abandon books if they don’t grip me immediately. I want something to keep me pulled in since it’s so hot in Austin. Anything that keeps my mind off of the sun and the heat, and the SUN, oh god, is essential.
So here are a few of PR by the Book’s picks for summer reading:
Stephanie Ridge: “Right now, I’m reading A Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I’m taking my time so I can savor every page. This is a book that I’ll come back to for years to come. At more than 50 years old, it is a real gem. So much about living a balanced life and about womanhood still rings true. Also in my summer reading pile: The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz and The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. These are books I’ve been meaning to read for way too long.”
Claire Rodriguez: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest I never read it in any of my classes, never seen the movie version, but I always see it referenced in tv shows, so it’s about time I get around to reading it.”
As for me? I’m also planning on reading The Happiness Project. It’s about time! (And part of my own happiness project.)
Stay tuned for more summer reading picks later this week!

Aside from the Editor’s Buzz panel, where we get sneak peeks at the next Big Thing in literature, media meetings are my favorite part of BEA. Why? Well, it’s an opportunity to meet face to face with some of the most important names at high-caliber outlets and find out their specific needs and exactly how [...]
