Judy McDonoughJudy McDonough – Senior Publicist

Judy McDonough is a twenty-year PR and media specialist; her background in entertainment and music gives her a fresh, unique perspective when planning a full-service publicity campaign for authors and their projects. Over the years she has secured media for clients at nearly every major media outlet in the country, with recent hits that include Today, CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, New York Times, Associated Press, People, NPR, Us Magazine, Fox & Friends, CNN New Day, SiriusXM, Wall Street Journal, Voice of America, Publishers Weekly, Parade, American Profile, Entertainment Tonight and many others.

Judy came to PR by the Book from Thomas Nelson imprint W Publishing Group, where she worked as Director of Publicity. While at W Publishing, she worked on campaigns for such top-selling authors as David Jeremiah, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs and HGTV superstars Chip & Joanna Gaines. Before that, Judy ran her own independent PR firm, JEMMedia, representing festivals and music events, record labels, recording artists and reality TV stars.

Prior to starting JEMMedia, Judy was a long-time publicist at Capitol Records Nashville, where she worked with such artists as Keith Urban, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Garth Brooks, Darius Rucker and many others.
A native St. Louisan, Judy has lived in Nashville long enough to be a passionate (and long-suffering) Tennessee Titans fan. She loves travel – especially to Ireland and Brazil – and can often be found in her kitchen, creating new recipes or trying something from her extensive cookbook collection.

Leslie Barrett – Publicist

Leslie Barrett has worked in the publishing industry for over 10 years and has managed a wide range of media campaigns including: children’s, history, historical fiction, art photography, business, sports, inspirational and cookbooks. She has worked in all aspects of publishing, from reading manuscripts, proofreading, editing, marketing, publicity to event planning.

An avid problem solver and game enthusiast, Leslie enjoys piecing together the puzzle of a media campaign: researching and finding writers, radio and television shows, podcasts, and blogs that best fit the profile and platform of her authors and titles; producing compelling press materials; and ultimately sharing the author’s story with the world.

Leslie comes to PR by the Book from Bright Sky Press, based in Houston, where she managed publicity for first-time, as well as seasoned authors in a variety of media outlets, including CBS This Morning,, Martha Stewart Sirius XM Radio, Psychology Today, Publisher’s Weekly, Washington Post, Texas Highways, Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Austin American Statesman, and more.

A native Texan, Leslie graduated from Texas A&M University with a Marketing Degree and has lived in all four corners of the state. She is an avid reader, traveler and cookbook addict. She lives in Austin and when not reading, she enjoys spending time with her kids, cooking, gardening and yoga.

Ann Pryor– Publicist

Ann Pryor has worked in publishing for over 20 years, managing media campaigns for New York Times bestsellers, thought leaders in business and health, and experts in topics ranging from Comic-Con and Benedict Arnold to Navy SEALS and America’s obesity crisis. She has experience in all stages of bringing a book to fruition, writing galley copy, crafted targeted pitches and profiles, collaborating with authors and their teams, and turning over every rock in search of quality coverage.

Ann enjoys the research aspect of book publicity, from creating unique story angles and timely hooks to pinpointing the perfect outlet. Whether it’s crafting a breaking pitch for a TV producer or seeking just the right blogger to cover a book or topic, she is inspired to help bring an author’s expertise to the public.

Ann comes to PR by the Book from McGraw-Hill Professional, where she was senior publicity manager, as well as a book marketing stint with Simon & Schuster and doing PR for the beautifully illustrated books at Rizzoli Publications. She has booked authors on media outlets ranging from Publishers Weekly, Psychology Today, Forbes, CBS This Morning, NPR, The San Diego Union Tribune, Working Mother, Modern Healthcare, Fast Company, and more.
