Book bloggers: We heart you.
POSTED BY stephanie ON September 13, 2010
It’s September 13th: Have you hugged a book blogger today?
I was reminded by a blogger morning that this week is in fact, Book Blogger Appreciation Week. As we kickoff the virtual book tour (blog tour) for Nancy Taylor Rosenberg’s new legal thriller My Lost Daughter (A Forge hardcover), we find it a fitting time to also extend our thanks to all the nameless bloggers out there, reading and writing not for notoriety or a paycheck, but for the love of literature.
Book bloggers help everyone from the biggest, baddest bestseller to the first time children’s book author. Their blogs are, for the most part, a level playing field — and for that we are thankful. These folks are helping spread the word for all the worthy books out there — big and small — in a media environment where channels are crowded, and ink and space can be limited.
About Book Blogger Appreciation Week:
Book Blogger Appreciation was started by Amy Riley of My Friend Amy in an effort to recognize the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading. The first Book Blogger Appreciation was observed in the fall of 2008 and occurs every September. The week spotlights and celebrates the work of active book bloggers through guest posts, awards, giveaways, and community activities. Book Bloggers are encouraged to register their participation for inclusion in a database of book bloggers.
At PR by the Book, we advocate healthy, mutually-beneficial blog practices between bloggers and the authors we represent. Our philosophy: bloggers are to be treated with the same rules and respect as our most coveted media relationships.
This week, show your neighborhood book blogger some love and adoration by:
- Following their blogs. Start with Haunted Orchid, vvB32 Reads, Books on the Nightstand, Fiction State of Mind or A Novel Source. Leave comments and spread their goodwill through your own social media channels.
- Offering up more than one copy of your book. Blog-hosted giveaways help bloggers up and retain their readership. So consider presenting them with the opportunity to give away 3-5 of your books. And do the shipping for them too, so they aren’t out-of-pocket any mail expenses.
- Interacting with them by participating in email interviews and extending to them special excerpts or other exclusive features, at no cost.
- Thanking them. If they review your work, always do your part to keep the viral nature of online media going. Post the review on your Facebook and your blog, send it to your email Fan list and by all means, Tweet it. Never take the work that they do for granted.
Now how about a big ole virtual hug for all our book blogger friends? >:D<
Thanks for all you do.
