Case Study: DK Publishing, Publisher of Pope Francis: A Photographic Portrait of the People’s Pope by Father Michael Collins

POSTED BY prbythebook ON July 27, 2017

Pope Francis DK Publishing Michael CollinsIn Pope Francis: A Photographic Portrait of the People’s Pope (DK), author Father Michael Collins and Vatican photographer Rodolfo Felici reveal 200+ never-before-published images of a modern and relatable Pope. We teamed up with DK on the book launch, just in time for the historic 2015 visit from Pope Francis to the U.S., which brought on frenzied media coverage of the Pope’s every move. At the height of Pope Francis mania, we were able to get Father Collins in front of large national audiences to share his vast knowledge of papal life and the Vatican, and also discuss photos from the book.

His national TV appearances included several shows across many networks, including CNN, NBC  and HuffPost Live. In the interviews, Father Collins spoke on the Pope’s background and life, both prior to and during the papacy. Four interviews with Fox News also provided national airtime highlighting his expertise.

Providing a saturated market with timely and relevant leads proved critical during the pope’s visit, and in doing so, we were able to book Father Collins to speak on several radio shows as well. Interviews were on shows featured on Bill Martinez Live (nationally syndicated via Bloomberg Radio), WNPV Philadelphia, Fox’s WGAU Atlanta, and others.

We certainly didn’t forget about the obvious: Catholic media. Father Collins made appearances on SiriusXM’s “The Busted Halo Show with Father Dave Dwyer,” “The God Show” on KTAR and nationally broadcasted CatholicTV Network . Catholic Digest Magazine was also one of the many Catholic media outlets offering exposure for Pope Francis. Book reviews also ran from secular outlets like The Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, BookTrib and Denver Catholic Register.

Our quick pace response to a very rapidly changing news agenda during the papal visit, combined with the publisher’s marketing and sales efforts, resulted in strong sales for the book, and an Amazon ranking of #143.
