Celebrating Texas Writer’s Month – Ruth Pennebaker
POSTED BY babs ON May 13, 2011
Texas Writers Month is a month-long event in May where—you guessed it—Texas writers are celebrated. It began in 1994 as an effort to get local bookstores to feature their local authors more prominently. Since then, it has evolved into a celebration that unites the entire literary community with multiple events that take place all over the entire state.
PR by the Book has decided to use the month of May to highlight the wide variety of Texas writers that comprise our sparkling clients.
Ruth enjoys life in Austin with her unstable cat, Lefty, but don’t let that fool you. She is the acclaimed, stable author of three young adult novels and one collection of essays. Her latest book, ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakthrough (January 2011, Berkeley Trade Paperback Original / Penguin) is a tough love story about individual isolation and has been featured in a number of print outlets such as The Houston Chronicle, The Austin American-Statesman, Barnes and Noble’s “Unabashedly Bookish” Blog, as well as on KXAN Austin News Today and KDAF “DFW Close Up”.
In addition, Ruth’s writings have appeared in The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, Parents, Redbook, McCall’s, Cooking Light and other nationwide publications. She is currently a columnist for the Texas Observer, a commentator for KUT-FM, and host of the award-winning blog, The Fabulous GeezerSisters.
