Extra, extra! PR By the Book is now offering Social Media Packages

POSTED BY tolly ON November 19, 2010

Knock, knock. What’s that sound? Why, that’s the sound of opportunity!

That’s right. Beginning now, PR By the Book is now offering Social Media Packages, designed to help you optimize your online platform, and connect your message with those who want to hear it.

Wait. What do you mean, “online platform?”

We’re glad you asked! See, just a few short years ago, we publicists met you, the client, took your message, made it media-friendly (that is, radio / newspaper / TV-ready), and pitched it to Mr. or Ms. Media Person.  And, we still do that — quite well.

But then, something began to change. We noticed that Mr. or Ms. Media Person wasn’t waiting for us to pitch them anymore. Instead, they turned to an expert source database of their own: Google.

Suddenly, things began to change. Our clients who were all over the web got a lot more popular with the traditional media crowd. We took notice, and focused our attention like a razor beam on getting them killer media hits online, in addition to the quality media hits we were already securing.

Well, that makes sense. But if you already pitch us to online media, why do I need this “social media” business?

Two reasons:

A) Because influencers – who, these days, are just as likely to be a top Amazon reviewer as a Today Show host – are already on the social media train. Take Gary Vanerchuk. The man has a captive Twitter audience of nearly 900,000. The man Tweets about your book? Boom: 900,000 people take note.

That means that in one second, he reaches almost as many folks that national television shows do in one hour.

B) Because you can reach your consumers directly. Take our author Billy Coffey. The man is a first-time author. The man is also a blogger, with a healthy Twitter following.

When Billy Coffey’s novel — his first — released October 2010, he hit #74 on Amazon Fiction. With literally millions of books in Amazon’s fiction catalog, we probably don’t need to tell you that that type of success is nothing short of jaw-dropping, eye-popping-out-of-head, jumping-up-and-down astounding.

Here’s one of our favorite videos about social media, and explains why so many folks are now big-time incorporating it into their publicity strategy.  The stats are pretty shocking.

Hold on! I thought the whole reason I hired a PR firm was so they could get out the word for me. This social media stuff sounds like a lot of work.

That’s where we come in, friend. We’ll set up your social media sites, your Twitter, your Facebook, your blog, etc., and get across your message in a fresh and compelling way. After consulting with you and getting a feel for your voice, we’ll get your platforms established in ways that are textually — and visually — true to you.

And if I’m ready to take the reins with social media?

Awesome! We’ll train you how to use these tools, connect you with influencers in your field, and show you how to engage them in a meaningful manner.

…But what if I just don’t have time to run my social media?

That’s cool, too! We’ll provide content for you as long as you need it.  We’ll also continue building relationships on your behalf with the Twitter users, bloggers, and the other social media folks who could benefit from your message.

One more thing! What is Twitter? What is Facebook? What’s a … blog?

These are all new tools that have literally sprung up in the last decade, so you’re not the only one with questions. At PR By the Book, we use each of these platforms on a daily basis, here on this blog, here on Twitter, and here on Facebook. In fact, PR By the Book is a case study of social media in action: We’ve booked traditional media via Twitter, and have even attracted new clients through this very blog.

So before we do any social media development on your behalf, we’ll get you comfortable with these tools. Because we tailor our social media campaigns, you may also find that consumer-interactive sites like Yelp or Shelfari are more up your alley. We’ll plug you into the networks that make the most sense for your product, and if you’re already registered there, work to increase your presence.

This all sounds great! Where do I sign up?
