Repurposing books as art isn’t a new subject for this blog, but our new favorite book nerd-worthy organization takes the cake when it comes to book paraphernalia.

We encountered Litographs at Book Expo America this May in NYC and fell in love. They made a splash at the conference with their collection of t-shirts, posters, tote bags, and temporary tattoos made entirely from the text of your favorite books. That’s right, you can now clothe yourself in your most-beloved book!

Ever cool, Litographs is on a quest to create the world’s longest tattoo chain. We joined countless BEA-goers by getting “inked” with a passage from a single book while Litographs compiled them into the correct order. You can check out their compilation of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass here.

These aren’t just words on a page (or on fabric), Litographs works with professional artists to create functional art out of famous books. The designs are gorgeous, making their products incredibly gift-worthy.

Our favorite part? This isn’t just a company capitalizing on a cool idea. Litographs is committed to promoting literacy all over the world. They’re partnered with the International Book Bank “to send one new, high-quality book to a community in need for each poster, t-shirt, and tote bag we sell” (and for every five tattoos).

We love supporting an awesome company with a wonderful . Check out their collection and stock up on book swag. It’s for a great cause!

(Also: if you’re an author, consider looking into their temporary tattoos as an interesting way to make a mark – literally – on new readers! It’s a fun and memorable replacement for traditional book gear like bookmarks and buttons.)

In years past, digital solutions in the book industry have stayed […]

What’s the frequency, Kenneth? Dispatches from BEA on the future of publishing.

(Any R.E.M. fans out there?) What was all the rage this year at the educational panels? More than the question of brick & mortar bookstores, the overarching theme this year was print vs. digital. Are print books going away? How does digital affect children’s reading experience? What’s about the next generation of industry leaders? Based […]

A case of the BEA Mondays

So much to do, so little time. When plotting your BEA week schedule, what’s your strategy? Divide and conquer is usually a handy method. Yes, it’s totally necessary to in four or more places at once during BEA. In fact, it’s really the only way to get to panels, media meetings and author/publisher sit-downs, and […]

Book Expo America wrap up – thanks, NYC!

Wow, what a whirlwind! We’re back and recovered from NYC – yet another great BEA! We’re still sorting through notes and following-up with everyone we met, but we wanted to take a moment and share a few highlights of this year’s trip. This was the first year that six of us went to BEA. With […]
