What is a Blog Tour?

POSTED BY prbythebook ON July 14, 2014

Blogger-LogoThe age of the internet gives authors the opportunity to connect with thousands of people. Taking advantage of these seemingly endless possibilities, blog tours provide great publicity for a new book without the hassle (or expense!) of travel. Instead of an author traveling from bookstore to bookstore and city to city, an author’s book can travel virtually from blog to blog and garner hundreds, if not thousands, of views in a short amount of time.

During a blog tour, bloggers from all across the nation agree to publish a post on a day during the tour. For a specified period (typically a week or two), bloggers publish their pieces about an author’s book. These pieces can range from reviews to an author interview to book excerpts. To boost readership levels, blog tours can even include free giveaways of a print or ebook copy of the book or other swag such as bookmarks and bags.

Developed as a book marketing tool in recent years, blog tours have now become a popular and effective way to market new or revitalized books on a low budget. As a bonus, they drive traffic to an author’s website, and point readers to their social media sites to connect with the author directly and join in the literary conversation.

Is it standard for the person coordinating the Blog Tour to provide the bloggers a copy of the book once they sign up for the tour or is it on the blogger to go buy the book?
